January 2014, witnessed the very first in the country and one of its kind FESC program in Mumbai. This unique fellowship program is being held in India, since last two years, under the banner of CAD India. Through an objective selection process, a few Indian cardiologists have been awarded with this fellowship. In last 2 years, we have had almost 300 cardiologists as fellows through this unique program.
The ESC Fellowship has become a highly respected voice in the voluntary sector of Cardiology. A Fellow is a cardiologist, considered to be a person who has had a number of years of experience in the field and who has distinguished himself or herself individually in clinical, educational, investigational, organizational or professional aspects of Cardiology.
The fellowship brings with it a plethora of privileges. Cardiologists bearing the title FESC are recognized as the core group of ESC experts.
In our endeavor of continuous medical education, and bringing the latest medical updates from the globe especially for the cardiologists and interventionist of our country, we are pleased to launch this very first edition of FESC update. The aim of this update is share the knowledge of key opinion leaders and stalwarts of the world with all the cardiologists and interventionist of our country. Some of the interesting topics are: Lessons learnt and Road untraveled in ACS, BP variability - a new target for treatment, and Myocardial revascularization : learning from imaging to clinical trials and many more. We thank all the national and international speakers of FESC 2015 program, for their contribution to this update.
We sincerely hope that this update, which is fully loaded with knowledge from key opinion leaders will be an important armamentarium in day-to-day clinical practice.
The FESC program accompanied with FESC update will continue every year. Looking forward to welcome you all to Advanced Cardiology 2016 in Mumbai.

William E. Boden Professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College, the Chief of Medicine at the Samuel S. Stratton Albany VA Medical Center, and Vice-Chairman,Department of Medicine, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.
Dr. Boden's principal research interests include studies instable ischemic hearts disease, postmyocardial infarction (MI) secondary prevention, acute coronary syndromes, and dyslipidemia in post-MI and coronary artery disease (CAD). He was the study chairman for the VANQWISH, INTERCEPT, and more recently, the landmark COURAGE Trial (the largest randomized trial comparison of percutaneous coronary intervention [PCI] versus optimal medical therapy in stable CAD patients). Dr. Boden has lectured widely and written over 380 peer-reviewed publications, original articles, books, chapters and abstracts. Dr. Boden also serves as an ad hoc journal reviewer for New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, American Heart Journal, the Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, the American Journal of Medicine, and the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Prof Jeroen Bax
MD, PhD, FESC
Prof Bax is a Director of non-invasive imaging and Director of the echo-lab at the Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. His main interest of research is related to imaging in clinical cardiology in particular, the integration of the different imaging techniques (nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, multi-slice computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging) into clinical practice issues. Has authored more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals on imaging & heart failure. He is Associate editor for Heart and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Prof Kieth Fox
Fox is a Professor of Cardiology of the University of Edinburgh. He was Chair of the Scientific and Clinical Programme of the European Society of Cardiology (2012 - 2014) and was a founding fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and has served as a Board member and lead for ischaemic heart disease on the Scientific Committee for the ESC Programme. He was awarded the Silver Medal of the European Society of Cardiology in 2010 for his contributions to cardiology. His major research interests are in the mechanisms and manifestations of acute coronary arterial disease and his work extends from underlying biological mechanisms to in vivo study and clinical trials. He is the recipient of various awards including those associated with keynote lectures at major congresses.
He is the author of more than 600 publications. His publications have been widely cited.
Alec Vahanian Professor of Cardiology, Department of Cardiology, Bichat Hospital, Paris, France
He is Head of the Cardiology Department, Bichat University Hospital, Paris. He is President and council member of the French Federation of Cardiology, Chairman of the European Society Cardiology Task Force on Valvular Heart Disease and Highlight Committee. He is Associate Editor of Euro Intervention, a member of the Editorial Boards of five journals, including the European Heart Journal. His research interests range from valvular heart disease, particularly percutaneous mitral commissurotomy, to acute coronary syndromes, particularly antithrombotic treatment and interventional management.
David Taggart Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery, University of Oxford
His main interests include all aspects of cardiovascular surgery, Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), Off-pump CABG, Arterial revascularisation His research interests includes, Clinical trials, particularly related to CABG. This includes use of arteries, CABG without the bypass machine and a new stent for vein grafts He is recently appointed by the Royal College of Surgeons of England as the lead for cardiothoracic research in the UK..
Prof Fausto Pinto
He is currently Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (Lisbon, Portugal), and Full Professor of Cardiology. He is also President of the Association for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine (AIDFM). He is currently the President of the European Society of Cardiology until 2016. He has published over 300 papers and has presented over 1300 lectures/chairmanships at national and mostly international meetings. His areas of interest are advanced Cardiovascular Imaging; Intracoronary Ultrasound; Echocardiography; Heart failure; Diastology and Hypertension.
Prof Peter Libby
Senior Advisor, Center for Interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Sciences;, Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School. Senior Physician, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. His current major research focus is the role of inflammation in vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. Dr. Libby has received numerous awards and recognitions for his research accomplishments, most recently the Gold Medal of the European Society of Cardiology (2011) and the Basic Research Prize of the American Heart Association (2011). His areas of clinical expertise include general and preventive cardiology. An author and lecturer on cardiovascular medicine and atherosclerosis, Dr. Libby has published extensively in medical journals including Circulation, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature. He is one of the Editors of Braunwald’s Heart Disease, having served as the Editor-in Chief of the 8th Edition. Dr. Libby has also contributed chapters on the pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of atherosclerosis to Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine. He has held numerous visiting professorships and has been selected to deliver more than 70 named or keynote lectures throughout the world.

Fellowship of the ESC was created in 1988. Its main objective is to provide the ESC with a way of upholding and expanding the professional qualities of our Society and of integrating various national activities to a greater degree within the European scene.
A Fellow is a cardiologist considered to be a person, who has had a number of years of experience in the field and who has distinguished himself or herself individually in clinical, educational, investigational, organisational or professional aspects of Cardiology.
The designation of the FESC title honors ESC members, who have made outstanding contributions in the field of Cardiology.
This title is based on professional scientific merit and testifies one’s commitment and achievement within the world of Cardiology.
